Blue Earth Floran® Filter Media Cleaning Solutions

The buildup of organic and inorganic deposits on granular filter media leads to shorter run times, higher head loss and mixing of media layers. Deposits on filter media increase backwash frequency and turbidity, as well as disinfectant demand and disinfection byproducts. Moreover, channeling and cementing of media can lead to contaminant breakthrough and clogged underdrains.

Rather than replacing the filter media completely, chemically remove the deposits with Floran Filter Media cleaning solutions. Cleaning water infrastructures off-line with Floran products restores and stabilizes disinfectant residuals, improves system performance, extends operational life and aids utilities in meeting federal regulations.

Media Master®, Media Master® RR, neXt® and Floran® Biogrowth Remover filter media cleaning solutions are NSF 60 certified and are formulated to remove organic and inorganic deposits from granular filter media. They are applied in-place, directly to the media and left to react overnight. After treatment, the product and removed deposits are backwashed from the filter bed. Backwash water is disposed of to the sewer or waste water lagoon. This process is suitable for gravity and pressure-type filters and most media types.

Periodic cleaning of filter media with Floran chemical solutions is a cost-effective alternative to media replacement and requires minimal downtime. Cleaning filter media will:

  • Restore filter media performance
  • Increase run times
  • Decrease backwash frequency
  • Decrease turbidity
  • Prevent channeling
  • Improve disinfectant levels, free or total
  • Reduce formation potential of DBPs
